Now, don't get me wrong, I really like a guy like Joe Mauer. He is a man of consistency and he gets the job done day in and day out. But in March, with the announcement of his 184 million dollar contract or 23 million each season, I couldn't help but be amazed. Sure Mauer is among the elite players in the MLB today and definitely the best catcher in my opinion but 23 million per season to play 160 games or so is simply outrageous. Does he have a ring? No. Actually he's only played in two post season series and did not win either of them. But it's not just Joe Mauer or even the MLB, every other professional sports league finds them selves in the identical situation.
Tampa Bay Rays (28-24) - The third team out of the American League East is the Tampa Bay Rays. After playing well for a few weeks, the beams have dropped back a little since then. The Rays finished a weekend series with Cleveland, blanking them 7-0. The Rays are led in offense by Matt Joyce, with his .365 batting average, along with 8 homeruns. Tampa Bay is batting .245 for a team, which is only 20th in the league. Tampa Bay's pitching ranks 10th in baseball, with a 3.53 earned run average, led by James Shields and his 2.15.
